| What motivated you? For me it was because I couldn't stand American cafeteria food. |

I needed to feed two very close friends, in bad need of a mother and/or girlfriend!
they had to eat, and I didn't have the heart to tell them I can't cook! |

I think I was inspired by my Mom, who went all out preparing (and having us kids help preparing)dozens of varieties of Christmas cookies when I was a kid. Not only was it the shapes and colors, but the aromas that filled the house for weeks it seemed that made a special place in my heart, and the smiles it put on the faces of us kids and the rest of the lucky souls who ate the delectable cookies.
I remember picking peaches from our tree and spending hours baking peach pies on weekends when I was a teenager. Having a working Mom made me volunteer to prepare and get that roast in the oven, and I respect my Mom so much now for her taking the time to teach my brother & I the importance of wholesome, home-cooked food.
Nowadays, my brother is in Honduras roasting his own coffee and I am in Japan making my own pastries and breads! |

While I had never been really given the opportunities to cook, I watched my grandma & my parents in action enough to have a sense of how things work (or don't work  ).
It wasn't until I moved in with my (non-dancing) ex that I started to cook. For some unknown reasons things just come together very nicely  . While I wouldn't say I learnt to cook in order to impress him, I did become a good cook with the chance of practice I have been given.
You see, Mum's kitchen is Mum's territory, regardless whether she is a good cook or not ............
So in a man's kitchen, I was given free reign to express my love for him/life/food via the mere act of cooking.
That was so satisfying in some ways........ |
