| I am totally crazy about anything spicy, and cook Korean, Indian, Thai and Mexican food on a regular basis. Interesting to me was the article I read in this morning's Yomiuri newspaper stating a Japanese researcher had discovered that eating a combination of chili peppers and soybeans is likely to promote hair growth! Kenji Okajima, an assistant professor at Kumamoto University, found that a combination of capsaicin(the chemical that makes chili peppers spicy) and isoflavone(which is found in soy beans) helps restore head & eyebrow hair that was lost due to stress. According to Mr Okajima's research, capsaicin raises levels of calcitonin gene-related peptide by stimulating sensory nerves. CGRP in turn raises levels of an insulinlike growth factor, that is recognized as important for hair growth. Isoflavone promotes the production of CGRP. Interesting, eh? |

Yes, that is quite interesting! I wonder, do the two things need to be eaten together or, rather, is jut eating both enough?
Mind you, I have a full head of hair and probably will all of my life... :D |

I think that the researcher was studying the effects of chilies eaten in conjunction with soybeans & that the combination of the two produced optimum effects.
P.S. Nice to hear that about your hair! |

| Yes, I was rather pleased myself when I found out that male pattern baldness is maternally transmitted... especially given that my dad is bald but that my maternal grandfather had a full head of hair for his entire life! :D |
