Ok, this hasn't happened to me in years, but it happened again today...
Why is it that restaurants (and waitstaff) trick you into paying for a refill rather than mentioning it beforehand? Don't they know that this will just hurt them as far as repeat business (or tip for a waiter)?
I know that I'm not going back to this one place down the street again. (not to mention the mediocre food, too). |

How do you mean, Tj? And what was the beverage?
In Japan, refills are almost never heard of with the exception of coffee at some US-chain coffee shops, "family restaurants" that have a drink bar(which you pay for) or beer gardens(which you pay a flat fee ot drink as much as you want). |

Softdrinks of any kind, meaning soda, iced tea, etc -basically any fountain drink, tends to be: buy once, and get free refills, here in the U.S.
But some more unscrupulous places will take advantage of this tendency and milk you for a few extra dollars at lunch because you assume it's free. |

| No such assumption here. You pay for your drinks, whether it is a second or not. A couple of places have refill coffee or soft drink, but it is clearly marked and generally self service. |

| And I have no problems with a place charging you for a refill. What I have a problem with is when 95% of the places give you free refills, and then a place offers to get a refill for you w/o letting you know they're going to charge you another $2 for it. |
