We can all associate food with certain rituals in our culture/daily life.
The obvious (to the Americans) would be turkeys & Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Is there anything you do in your family/culture (food-related) that's ritualistic....? It doesn't have to be an official holiday or anything.
For example, as we don't celebrate Christmas, I've declared one day of the first week in Jan to be Dumpling Day........ . A chance to catch up with friends/family & enjoying the good weather (Southern Summer 8) !) together.
*this thread came about because my family is having a gathering right now.....a big 'Dumpling making/eating' event.......having the commotion in the background is simply too much fun* |

I have a HUGE Christmas party for about 20 of my close students once a year, where I roast a turkey, make stuffing & gravy(ALL from scratch). I do the same thing a few weeks later for a "year-end party". The Japanese call it a "Bonen-kai" and the purpose is to enjoy & drink so much you literally "forget the year" that has gone by.
I make sweets for Valentine's Day. Last year was Bailey's Irish cream fudge & Rum-raisin Crispy Turtles. I give these to my clients & close friends & students.
I'm always cooking for some party or other, and things change with the seasons(or if I get my hands on a new recipe!)... |

| Well, I ordered my 2 turkeys but I have yet to plan my parties! Usually they are sometime in December but I will be out of the country until the 28th so it's looking like New Year's parties! |
